The motif is a view of Australian town, with a firefighter lifting corrugated iron sheeting, with the wind showing in the palmtrees. The source image is taken from the images posted on the internet. The firefighters are the heroes of the moment, along with the local residents, neighbours and businesses and emergency services.
This a series responding to the horrific scenes from my native Australia, as ecosystems and homes are destroyed, and countless animals and residents’ lives are disrupted beyond reckoning. This is due to a combination of extremely high temperatures, superdry tinder from drought stricken bush and forest and high winds, leading to the perfect conditions for raging bushfires to spread around the perimeter. All six states and territories are affected, with the exception of Tasmania.
Australia’s recent record on reducing carbon emissions is not good, and the government is rightly called to account for continuing to protect coal mining and fossil fuel industries, while the country burns. As scientists will confirm, the fires are not caused by global warming, but climate change is making conditions worse, by drying and heating the continent.
